Estimated reading time: 2 min

Supported Features

  • 2.4 GHz WiFi according to IEEE 802.11 b/g/n

Connection possibilities without existing configuration

  • Auto configuration via WPS (push button method)
  • Auto configuration in access point mode

Auto configuration via WPS

  1. Press the WPS button on the router.
  2. Connect the GHL device to the power supply.
  3. After startup, an attempt is made to exchange the WiFi connection data between the router and the radio module within a time window of 30 seconds.
  4. Finally, the radio module must be restarted and will then automatically connect to the router in the network.

Auto configuration in access point mode

  1. After unsuccessful connection setup via WPS, the AccessPoint mode is activated for 5 minutes.
and the GHL device is listed in the WiFi overview with an SSID as follows: GHLDEV-[the last three digits MAC address]
  2. After selecting this GHL device in the WiFi configuration manager and entering the passphrase (Starfish), the connection is established and maintained until the GHL device is restarted.
After you have saved the changes and disconnected the connection, the data will be transmitted to the radio module.
  3. The WiFi module is restarted and the configuration interface can be accessed via a web browser at the following address: http://192.168.4.1/
The final configuration is now made and saved here under the menu item Network.

WiFi operating modes

Client Mode

This mode connects the WiFi module directly to the router.

The IP configuration can be either static or via DHCP.

Note: The static IP address configuration is preferable, since the IP address can be entered and connected directly in GHL Connect or GHL Control Center.

Access point mode

This mode places the WiFi module in an independent hotspot, where you can connect to a smartphone, for example.

The IP address 192.168.4.1 is assigned by default and is thus used under the GHL Connect or GHL Control Center network settings.

Note: The WiFi channel should be selected with sufficient distance to neighbouring WiFi networks and their channels.

Client+Accesspoint mode

This mixed mode connects the WiFi module to the router and provides a hotspot at the same time.

Note: The WiFi channel is not arbitrary, but must be identical to the WiFi channel of the router.

Switch off WiFi

With GHL Control Center the WiFi can be activated under the menu item “Communication”.
can be deactivated.
Note: An unconfigured WiFi module without stored data is deactivated after five minutes.
is disabled.

Tips & Troubleshooting WiFi Setup

WiFi status information

For WiFi problems of any kind, first determine the status information for the WiFi module that is listed on the communication page in GHL Control Center:

WiFi StatusMeaning
ReadyThe WiFi module has started .
SignalThe Signalqualityät to the connected Access Point in dBm
as Client connectedA Connection to the Access Access Point is established .
As Access Point connectedA WiFi-Gerät is connectedwith dem WiFi-Module .

Other features

Client Mode

  • The WiFi module automatically attempts to establish a new connection at short intervals. This only happens if no WiFi device is currently connected to the access point.

Accesspoint mode

There are still problems

Connection setup fails
  • Check the input of the SSID and the corresponding passphrase for correctness.
  • The IP address configuration must be valid and the selected IP address will not be used by another WiFi device.
Connection termination
  • It must be ensured that the WiFi module can achieve a reception quality of at least -80 dBm. Select the location of the router as close as possible to the GHL device.
  • The WiFi module automatically attempts to establish a new connection at short intervals. This only happens if no WiFi device is currently connected to the access point.
