What it does

Light you can shape

Seven separately adjustable color channels let you match the spectrum to the aquarium in front of you — natural or cool with a blue accent, tuned for plant growth or for coral fluorescence and growth. Sunrise, moonlight, cloud cover and thunderstorms are part of the same system.

Efficiency comes from the components: current-generation LEDs, purpose-built reflectors, and a heatsink that keeps junction temperatures low. Lower temperatures mean longer LED life and more lumens per watt.

The five LED setups below differ in LED population — not in electronics or housing. Each spectrum shown is the baseline, all channels at 100%. Every channel can be changed as you like.

Five LED setups

Same housing, same electronics — different LED population.

Each setup is tuned for a specific use case, from planted freshwater to refugium. All models combine freely with each other — the resulting spectrum is the mixture of the individual spectra.

Mitras Lightbar 3 Coral Pop

Tuned to drive coral fluorescence. The LED mix places its spectral peaks where fluorescent proteins respond, spanning from UVA to light blue.

  • Spectral peaks selected to excite coral fluorescence
  • Spans from UVA to the light blue spectrum

Works as a supplemental fluorescence source alongside Deep Ocean or Ocean Blue, or in combination with your existing lighting.

Baseline spectrum, all channels 100%. CCT approx. 27 000 K.
For marine aquariums.

LED setup per 10 cm (4″): 2× UVA (385 nm + 405 nm), 1× hyper violet (425 nm), 1× deep blue, 2× royal blue, 2× blue, 2× RGB

Mitras Lightbar 3 Deep Ocean

Recreates the natural underwater light of the open ocean at greater depth. A wide spectrum with clear emphasis on the blue range.

  • LED setup tuned for coral growth
  • Wide spectrum, emphasis on the blue range

Combines well with Ocean Blue for a deeper or shallower look, or with Coral Pop to add fluorescence.

Baseline spectrum, all channels 100%. CCT approx. 17 300 K.
For marine aquariums.

LED setup per 10 cm (4″): 1× hyper violet (425 nm), 2× royal blue, 1× deep blue, 2× blue, 2× cold white, 2× RGB

Mitras Lightbar 3 Ocean Blue

The same principle as Deep Ocean, tuned to shallower water: a wide spectrum with a blue accent, but more white and a more open, daylight-like appearance.

  • LED setup tuned for coral growth
  • Wide spectrum, blue accent with substantial white

Combines with Deep Ocean or Coral Pop for marine tanks, and with Skywhite for a slightly bluish freshwater look.

Baseline spectrum, all channels 100%. CCT approx. 12 000 K.
For marine aquariums; with Skywhite also for freshwater.

LED setup per 10 cm (4″): 1× royal blue, 1× deep blue, 2× blue, 2× cold white, 2× daylight white, 2× RGB

Mitras Lightbar 3 Skywhite

Built for freshwater and planted aquariums. A balanced spectrum with a high Color Rendering Index shows fish and plants in natural colors.

  • CRI min. 95 — natural color rendering
  • Blue and deep red peaks feed photosynthesis

Works on its own for a natural freshwater look, or with Ocean Blue for a cooler, slightly bluish appearance.

Baseline spectrum, all channels 100%. CCT approx. 6 600 K.
For freshwater aquariums.

LED setup per 10 cm (4″): 1× royal blue, 1× blue, 2× cold white, 2× daylight white, 1× natural white, 1× hyper red, 2× RGB

Mitras Lightbar 3 Refugium

Developed for refugiums. The spectrum promotes macroalgae and beneficial microorganisms at low energy consumption.

  • Promotes macroalgae and beneficial microorganisms
  • Maximum effective light per watt

A healthy refugium supports the balance of the display tank — this setup lights it without wasting energy on wavelengths it doesn’t need.

Baseline spectrum, all channels 100%.
For algae and plants in refugiums and greenhouses.

LED setup per 10 cm (4″): 1× hyper violet (425 nm), 1× deep blue, 4× Photophyll white, 2× hyper red

Combine freely

Any model with any other. The spectra simply add up.

The GHL Connect app and GHL Control Center handle mixed configurations. The Lightcomposer wizard collects all channels in use, you set the target spectrum with sliders, and the result is shown in real time — and can be sent straight to the luminaires for testing.

Lightcomposer

Mixed setups are where the seven channels pay off. Two Lightbars with different LED populations give you a combined spectrum that neither model reaches alone — a Coral Pop next to a Deep Ocean, for instance, adds fluorescence excitation to a growth-oriented base.

You don’t have to work this out by hand. Lightcomposer knows which channels are available across your fixtures and shows the resulting spectrum while you adjust it.

Light performance

  • Current-generation high-power LEDs from leading brands — white LEDs at min. 160 lumens/watt.
  • Lifespan > 60 000 hours according to the LED manufacturer.
  • CRI min. 95 in the Skywhite setup.
  • The LEDs are deliberately not driven at maximum current. High current shortens LED life and costs efficiency. Using more LEDs at reduced power is the better trade.

Uniform light distribution

  • Each LED segment has its own driver electronics, which keeps brightness even across the entire length of the bar.
  • The individual LED colors mix before the light reaches the water — no color spots in the aquarium.
  • The cover is made from highly transparent acrylic with high transmission across a broad spectrum.

Total Reflection and Diffusion Technology TRDT™

Each LED sits in its own microreflector, nestled within a larger field reflector. The reflector material reflects and diffuses at nearly 100% efficiency.

The result is a uniform color blend without the “disco effect” common in other brands, and a balance between light spread and penetration depth that lenses cannot match. More on this below.

Heatsink design

Cooling determines both service life and efficiency. The solid Mitras Lightbar heatsink carries additional micro-grooves in its cooling fins, which enlarge the effective surface area and keep LEDs and electronics at low temperature.

The threaded channel along the top doubles as a mounting interface — for hanging kits, for example.

Lengths

Lengths from 40 cm (15.75″) to 200 cm (78.75″) in 10 cm (4″) increments. Full-length illumination is achievable on practically any aquarium.

Mounting options

  • Stainless steel brackets in two sizes
  • Hanging kit — stainless steel rope holders, attach directly to the groove in the middle of the heatsink
  • Height-adjustable brackets
  • Rail mounts
  • Mitras LB Mount System

Total Reflection. Total Diffusion.

TRDT™ — engineered for uniform color blend.

Each LED has its own microreflector, nestled within a larger field reflector. The reflector material reflects and diffuses light at nearly 100% efficiency.
Combined with the precision-engineered geometry, the result is a uniform blend of colors — without the distracting “disco effect” common in other brands.
TRDT achieves an optimal balance between light spread and immersion depth, outperforming traditional secondary optics, particularly lenses.

Cooling is everything

Lifetime and efficiency — light output per watt — are largely determined by cooling. The Mitras Lightbar 3 uses a massive heatsink that runs the full length of the fixture and uses every inch of it for heat dissipation.

Micro-grooves on the surface enlarge the effective area further. The bar stays cool even at full power, which protects both energy efficiency and LED lifetime.

The screw channel along the top serves double duty as a mounting interface — for hanging kits, for example.

Illuminate every corner

Seventeen lengths. One fits your aquarium.

From 40 cm (15.75″) to 200 cm (78.75″) in 10 cm (4″) increments — no compromise between a bar that falls short and one that overhangs.

*) Net power draw of the light module. When comparing with LED lights from other vendors, note that they often state the higher power draw of the complete system including power supply losses. Efficiency matters just as much: the Mitras Lightbar light module runs at about 92%, where most LED lights of other vendors reach about 75%.

How many Lightbars does my aquarium need?

Select by aquarium volume. Rule of thumb:

  • Low light requirement: 0.3 watts per liter
  • Very high light requirement: 0.9 watts per liter

A “lumens per liter” recommendation is often given. In our opinion this only makes sense for Skywhite. For luminaires with a high blue component — Ocean Blue, Deep Ocean — lumen figures are misleading, since the lumen unit weights the spectrum by human eye sensitivity, not by what corals use.

Mounting options

On the rim, above the glass, or from the ceiling.

Brackets in two sizes, height-adjustable holders, rail mounts, hanging kits — the Lightbar integrates into open and covered aquariums alike.

Mounting options in detail

Angled brackets

Supplied with every Lightbar. Mount the bar on practically any aquarium using the angled stainless steel brackets.

MitrasLightbar 2+3, dimensions angled holding bracket

Flat brackets

Optional. For confined spaces — beneath aquarium canopies, for instance — where the angled brackets need more headroom than is available.

Mitras SLB Holder

Elevated mounting: the bar sits up to 25 cm (9.8″) above the top edge of the aquarium glass, height adjustable. Base and clamping screws are acrylic, the brackets are 4 mm stainless steel.

Hanging kit

For open aquariums without a cover. The rope holders screw directly into the groove that runs along the middle of the heatsink — no additional adapter needed.

Stufenlose Justierung der Leuchten über dem Becken

One power supply. Up to four Lightbars.

Fewer cables in the cabinet, lower cost per fixture.

Most LED lights need one power supply each. The Mitras Lightbar doesn’t: a single unit runs up to four bars via the Mitras Lightbar Splitter, and splitters chain together for larger installations.

Direct ProfiLux compatibility

The Lightbar connects directly to a ProfiLux controller — ProfiLux 4, 4.1, 4e, 4.1e or Mini (WiFi) as full aquarium controllers, or ProfiLux Light (WiFi) as a dedicated light controller. No bridge, no adapter.

That link is what separates the Lightbar from stand-alone LED lights: lighting becomes part of the aquarium’s control system. Light reduction on high water temperature, maintenance routines that dim the tank, simulations synchronized with everything else running around it.

Power supplies are ordered separately

Because several luminaires share one unit, the Lightbar ships without a power supply. Order the unit that matches your configuration — see the Configurations section below.

Operation modes

The Lightbar runs undimmed or dimmed.

Undimmed — all LEDs at 100%, no controller required. A simple timer switches it on and off.

Dimmed — with a ProfiLux controller, every color channel dims independently. That opens up the simulation programs: sunrise and sunset, cloud cover, thunderstorms, and calendrical moon phase simulation. The integrated RGB LEDs handle the effects; no separate lights needed.

Sunrise and sunset transitions, cloud simulation, thunderstorms, calendrical moon phases — the ProfiLux simulation programs run the Lightbar’s channels directly.

The integrated RGB LEDs cover the effects. No additional fixtures.

The system scales with you. Start with a ProfiLux Light and one bar, add fixtures and channels as the aquarium grows, move up to a full ProfiLux controller when you want the rest of the tank on the same system.
