Summary #
The GHL Magnetic Stirrer is designed to keep aquarium additives โ such as bacteria, coral foods, or specific trace elements โ perfectly mixed to prevent precipitation or settling. It is controlled directly by a GHL Doser or ProfiLux, allowing for automated stirring cycles synchronized with your dosing schedule. Each Doser provides as many magnetic stirrer ports as it has pumps, ensuring a 1:1 assignment for your supplement containers.

Applies to #
- GHL Doser 2 / Maxi / 2.2 Maxi Series (incl. Industrial Line / IL)
- GHL Doser 3 / 3 Maxi Series (incl. Industrial Line / IL)
- Compatible controller:
- ProfiLux 4 Series (incl. Industrial Line / IL)
- ProfiLux 3 Series
- Software:
- GHL Connect (App, Webinterface, myGHL)
- GHL Control Center
Step 1: Physical Installation #
- Safety First: The Magnetic Stirrer port must be powered off when plugging or unplugging the device. Ensure no stirring is currently active or, ideally, disconnect the Doser from power to prevent damage to the port or the stirrer.
- Placement: Place the provided Magnet into your dosing container and fill it with fluid.
- Positioning: Place the container on the stirrer.
Tip: Move the container slightly back and forth until you feel the stirrer “catch” the magnet inside, then place it centrally. - Connection: Connect the cable to the stirrer port on the back of your Doser. Note the port number; the stirrer numbering follows the pump numbering of the respective Doser.
Step 2: Configuration #
To begin, navigate to the stirrer settings based on your master device:
- GHL Doser (Standalone): Go to the menu Magnetic stirrers.
- ProfiLux Controller: Go to Extras -> Magnetic stirrer.
Settings #
In GHL Control Center, you will see an editable table. In GHL Connect, select the specific stirrer from the list to open its details. Configure the following parameters:
- Activated by:
- “—“: Deactivates automation.
- Dosing pump: Links the stirrer to a specific pump index. The stirrer will run for the duration of the dosing process plus the Lead time.
- Switch channel (ProfiLux only):ย Links the stirrer to a specific switch channel. The stirrer remains active as long as the channel is ON.
- Index: The index number of the pump or switch channel assigned above.
- Lead time: How long the stirrer runs before a scheduled dosing begins.
Note: This setting only applies when Activated by is set to Dosing pump and to scheduled doses only. - Stir cycles/day: Defines how many times the stirrer should run automatically per day, independent of dosing. These cycles are distributed evenly across the 24-hour period, starting at midnight.
- Stir duration: This defines the run time only for the “Stir cycles/day”. When triggered by a pump or switch channel, the duration is determined by the activity of that source (plus Lead time, if applicable).
- Speed: Adjustable from 0 (min.) to 15 (max.).
- Model: Select 1 or 2. Check the bottom of your device; if no model is listed, it is Model 1.
Step 3: Testing the Setup #
Once configured, you can verify the mechanical and software setup.
- Manual Override: In the GHL Control Center table or the GHL Connect list, toggle “Activate manual override”. This allows you to turn the stirrer on manually.
- Verify Rotation: Ensure the magnet spins smoothly. If the magnet “jumps” or rattles, try centering the container more accurately or slightly increasing/decreasing the Speed.
Notes & Troubleshooting #
-
- Stirrer doesn’t spin: Usually a “Model” mismatch. If Model 1 is selected and nothing happens, switch to Model 2.
- Weak performance: Increase the Speed setting. Thicker fluids require higher torque (Speed 10โ15).
- Numbering logic: Stirrer ports are tied to the unit’s pump numbering. If your Extension Doser starts at Pump 5, its physical stirrer ports also start at Index 5.
- Manual Dosing: Please note that manual doses triggered via software or the buttons on the Doser do not trigger the Magnetic Stirrer. If you need to mix a solution before a manual dose, use the Manual Override in the stirrer menu to start the stirrer briefly beforehand.
