Summary #
GHL controllers support two types of notifications to keep you informed about system events: email notifications and push notifications. Email notifications are sent directly by the controller via a configured mail server and can include live sensor data and system status using tokens. Push notifications are delivered through the GHL Connect App on your mobile device and cover a configurable set of system events. An older hardware-based option for SMS alerts is briefly covered at the end of this article.

Email Notifications #
Open Email notification. The page displays a table of all configured notifications. Each entry shows Recipient, Subject, Message, and Condition.
To add a notification, click New (GHL Control Center) or Add (GHL Connect). To edit an existing entry, double-click it or select it and click Edit (GHL Control Center), or tap the gear icon next to it (GHL Connect). Entries can be deleted by selecting them and clicking Delete, or duplicated with Duplicate (GHL Control Center only โ not available in GHL Connect). To send a test notification immediately, select the entry and click or tap Test.
Notification Settings #
Each notification has the following settings:
- To: The recipient’s email address.
- Subject: The subject line of the email.
- Message: The body text of the email. Tokens can be inserted to include live data from the controller โ see the Tokens section below. In GHL Control Center, a token dropdown is available directly alongside the text field. In GHL Connect, enable the Advanced toggle to access the full text input with token insertion; without Advanced, only a single token can be selected.
- Mailing condition: Determines when the notification is sent:
- Don’t send automatically: The notification is only sent manually via the Test button.
- Always: Sent continuously โ either cyclically at a set interval (HH:MM) or at a fixed time of day.
- Alarm: Sent when a ProfiLux alarm is active โ cyclically, at a fixed time of day, just when the alarm appears (just new), or just when it clears (just over).
- Digital input 1โ16: Sent when the selected digital input is active โ with the same timing sub-options as Alarm.
Tokens #
Tokens are placeholders in the message text that the controller replaces with live data when the email is sent. They make it easy to include current sensor readings, alarm states, system information, and more without manually updating the message content.
A token follows the format $$TOKEN[n]$$, where n is an optional index for indexed resources such as sensors or switch outputs โ indexes start at 0. Some commonly used tokens:
- $$ALMS$$ โ current alarm state; if multiple alarms are active, the source rotates on each call of the token
- $$SENC[n]$$ โ complete info for sensor n+1: name, actual value, and state in one token
- $$SENV[n]$$ โ actual value only for sensor n+1, useful when the sensor name is written statically in the message text
For the complete token reference, see the Tokens for ProfiLux 3 & 4 document in the Downloads section.
Email Account #
Below the notification list, the My email account section configures the outgoing mail server the controller uses to send notifications:
- Mail server: The SMTP server address (IP address, domain name, or hostname).
- Port: The SMTP port used by the server.
- My name: The sender display name. Some servers require this to match the email address.
- My email address: The sender address used for all outgoing notifications.
- Username / Password: Login credentials for SMTP authentication, if required by the server. The username is often the full email address.
On ProfiLux 3, two additional options are available:
- Mailserver requires authentification: Enable if the SMTP server requires login credentials.
- Encrypted via GHL Server: Routes outgoing emails through GHL’s proxy server using SSL/TLS encryption. Use this when your email provider requires a secure connection, since ProfiLux 3 cannot establish SSL/TLS connections directly.
On ProfiLux 4, email sending always uses SSL/TLS. No additional encryption settings are required.
A few things to be aware of when configuring email sending:
- SMTP settings: The required server address, port, and authentication details are provided by your email provider on their website or support pages.
- SMTP access disabled by default: Some providers disable SMTP sending by default. If emails fail to send despite correct settings, check your provider’s account settings to make sure SMTP access is enabled.
- Gmail: Google no longer allows sending via a regular account password. Enable two-factor authentication on your Google account and create an App Password specifically for the ProfiLux โ use this App Password in the Password field instead of your regular Google password.
- Router or firewall blocking SMTP: If emails consistently fail to send, check whether your router or ISP is blocking outgoing connections on the configured SMTP port.
Push Notifications #
Push notifications are delivered to the GHL Connect App on your mobile device via the myGHL cloud service โ no mail server is required. Push notifications are currently only supported in the GHL Connect App on Android and iOS; they are not available in the browser or GHL Control Center.
Configuring Notification Events #
The notification event table defines which events trigger a push notification and when. Access it via System โ Communication โ Push-notifications in GHL Control Center, or Network โ Push-notifications configuration in GHL Connect.
For each event source, three columns can be enabled independently โ using toggles in GHL Connect or Yes/No dropdowns in GHL Control Center:
- Event new: Sends a notification the moment the event is triggered.
- Event ongoing: Sends repeated notifications while the event remains active. The repeat interval (in minutes) is set in the Repeat notification after this time field below the table.
- Event over: Sends a notification when the event ends.
The available event sources cover the main system functions and alarm types. A few distinctions worth noting:
- Doser alarm / Automatic feeder alarm: Triggered when the fill level has dropped to or below the configured alarm threshold.
- Doser warning / Automatic feeder warning: Triggered in advance, before the alarm threshold is reached โ useful for getting an early heads-up to refill before the alarm fires.
- KH Director / ION Director: These entries indicate an active measurement cycle, not an alarm. Alarms from KH Director and ION Director are reported under Sensor alarm.
Enabling Push Notifications #
Before push notifications can be received, the following must be in place:
- The GHL device must be connected to myGHL.
- You must be logged in to myGHL in the GHL Connect App.
- Push notifications must be allowed for the GHL Connect App in your device’s system settings. The app will prompt you on first use; if you declined, enable them manually in your device settings.
To enable push notifications for a device:
- Open App settings via the gear or menu icon at the top right.
- Scroll to the Push notifications section at the bottom and tap Enable.
- A wizard opens โ select the myGHL devices you want to receive notifications from.
- For each selected device, configure which notification events should be active.
Once enabled, you can also quickly toggle push notifications for individual devices from the My Devices page: tap the gear icon on a myGHL device and use the toggle in the Push notifications section.
Notes #
- Alarm Display: GHL Connect always shows active alarms, warnings, and reminders directly via a badge on the Alarm icon while connected to a device โ independent of whether push notifications are enabled.
- GHL SMS Module: The SMS Module and SMS Module PAB are hardware add-ons that connect to the ProfiLux via RS232 or PAB and send SMS messages based on configurable events. The token system works the same way as for email notifications. The device manuals are available in the Downloads section.
