Summary #
Pump Groups allow you to synchronize and control multiple variable-speed pumps simultaneously. Using programs, you can create flow schedules, wave patterns, tidal simulations, and automatic reactions to system events such as feed pauses or maintenance modes. Multiple independent groups can be configured, with a combined maximum of 16 pumps distributed across all groups in any combination.
Applies to #
- ProfiLux 4 Series (incl. Industrial Line / IL)
- ProfiLux 3 Series
- Software:
- GHL Connect (App, Webinterface, myGHL)
- GHL Control Center
Before you start #
- Pumps must be connected and configured first. Pump Groups only control the flow behavior โ the physical connection and interface assignment must already be in place:
- 1-10V pumps: Connected to an L-port and assigned to a pump channel via 1-10V interfaces. See: 1-10V Pump Control โ Setup Guide
- VorTech pumps: Paired via the GHL VorTech Controller and set to ProfiLux controlled mode. See: VorTech Controller โ Setup Guide
- Versia pumps: Connected via the Versia Controller and assigned to pump channels. See: Versia โ Setup Guide
- A pump can only belong to one group at a time. Assigning it to a new group removes it from the previous one.
Configuration #
Step 1 โ Open the Pump Groups menu #
The menu layout differs slightly between platforms, but all settings are identical:
- GHL Control Center: Navigate to Extras โ Pump group X (where X is the group number). All settings โ Nocturnal decrease, Programs, and Pump assignment โ appear on a single page.
- GHL Connect: Navigate to Extras โ Pump groups and select a group. Settings are split across two tabs: Programs (with Nocturnal decrease at the bottom) and Pump assignment.
Step 2 โ Assign pumps to the group #
In GHL Control Center: The left list shows assigned pumps; the right list shows available pumps. Double-click a pump to move it between lists. The Assigned to pump group column shows whether a pump is already in use. Remove a pump with the trash icon.
In GHL Connect: Open the Pump assignment tab and tap Assign pumps. Check the boxes for the pumps you want to include โ existing group assignments are shown in parentheses. Tap the checkmark to save.
Once assigned, configure the individual settings for each pump. In GHL Control Center, double-click the pump or use the brush icon. In GHL Connect, tap the gear icon next to the pump (only active after saving the assignment).
Each pump has the following settings:
- Minimum / Maximum: The absolute power limits for this pump in %.
- At night: Power in % during the nocturnal decrease period.
- At thunderstorm: Power in % during an active thunderstorm event.
- Pump completely off during inactivity: When enabled, the pump drops to 0% instead of the defined minimum when a program dictates no flow.
- Behaviour during feeding: How the pump reacts during a feed pause: uninvolved, at minimum, or off.
- Reacts on feeding: Which feed pauses trigger the behavior defined above.
Step 3 โ Configure nocturnal decrease #
The nocturnal decrease reduces overall flow during a defined nighttime window to simulate calmer conditions. Enable it and set a Start time and End time.
Note: This setting only defines the time window. The actual power reduction is determined by the At night value configured for each individual pump in Step 2.
Step 4 โ Create and prioritize programs #
Programs define when pumps run and at what intensity. A Standard program is always present and acts as a fallback when no other program is active.
Managing programs:
- Add: Click + (GHL Control Center) or Add (GHL Connect)
- Edit: Double-click or brush icon (GHL Control Center) / gear icon (GHL Connect)
- Duplicate: Copy icon in both platforms
- Delete: Trash icon (GHL Control Center) / gear icon โ Delete (GHL Connect)
Program prioritization: The program list follows a fixed hierarchy:
- Standard always appears at the top of the list but only becomes active when no other program’s conditions are met.
- Timer, switch channel, and activity programs always take priority over time-interval programs. Their order relative to each other can be adjusted โ programs higher in the list run first when multiple conditions are active simultaneously. In GHL Control Center, use the up/down arrow icons to reorder. In GHL Connect, use drag and drop.
- Time-interval programs always sit at the bottom and are mutually exclusive โ their time windows cannot overlap.
Tip: After saving, the currently active program is highlighted in the list. Use this to verify that the priority logic is working as expected.
Step 5 โ Define activation and flow mode for each program #
When editing a program, define when it activates and how the pumps behave. If you want to use a pre-configured wave template instead of setting up the flow mode manually, you can load a preset first โ see Step 6.
Activation (These settings will be activated):
- During time interval: Runs between a defined start and end time. Time-interval programs are also shown visually in the timeline.
- By timer: Triggered by a specific timer number. Does not appear in the timeline.
- By switch channel: Triggered by a specific switch channel index.
- By activities: Triggered by global system events โ check any combination of: Maintenance 1โ4, Feed pause 1โ4, AWC 1โ4, Thunderstorm, Power cut.
Flow mode (Mode):
- No current โ pumps are inactive
- Permanent / Permanent opposite โ constant flow; recommended for return pumps
- Sequence 1 / Sequence 2 โ pumps alternate sequentially
- Surge 1 / Surge 2 โ pumps ramp up and down in intensity
- Random โ flow is randomized
- Flow sensor controlled โ flow is regulated based on a connected flow sensor (select the sensor number)
Additional settings (availability depends on the selected mode):
- Min. / Max. duration: Duration limits for a sequence. Available for Sequence, Surge, and Random modes.
- Wave form: No waves, Sinus waves (smooth ramping), or Rect. waves (abrupt pulsing). Not available for No current or Flow sensor controlled.
- Min. / Max. wave duration: Speed of the wave pulses. Only active when a wave form is selected.
- Waves pattern: Synchronization between pumps in the group: Random, Swelling, Oscillating, or Uniform. Not available for No current or Flow sensor controlled.
- Random wave reduction: Maximum % reduction during random wave patterns. Only active with the Random waves pattern.
- Intensity: Overall output strength of the program in %.
Step 6 โ Use presets (optional) #
Presets store and recall wave and mode settings only โ activation triggers are not included.
Loading a preset:
- GHL Control Center: Double-click a preset in the list, or use the left-arrow icon.
- GHL Connect: Select from the dropdown and tap the download icon.
Saving a custom preset:
- GHL Control Center: Click the right-arrow icon to save the current configuration.
- GHL Connect: Tap Save current settings as preset.
Deleting a custom preset: Select it and use the trash icon (GHL Control Center), or select it from the dropdown and tap the trash icon next to it (GHL Connect).
Notes #
- Checking the active program: After saving, the currently active program is highlighted in the program list. If a program is not activating as expected, check which program is highlighted to diagnose where the priority logic is taking effect.
- Standard program as fallback: The Standard program is always active when no other program’s conditions are met. Configure it to represent your typical daytime flow.
- Presets save wave settings only: Activation triggers are not saved with a preset and must be configured manually for each program.
- VorTech pumps: VorTech pumps must be set to ProfiLux controlled in the VorTech Controller menu before they respond to Pump Group settings.
Common Issues #
Cause
The Pump completely off during inactivity option is not enabled. By default, the pump ramps down to its defined Minimum % rather than stopping fully.
Solution
Open the pump’s individual settings within the group (brush icon in GHL Control Center, gear icon in GHL Connect) and enable the Pump completely off during inactivity option.
Cause
Either the wrong activation condition is configured, the corresponding system event has not actually been triggered, or another timer or activity program higher in the list is taking priority.
Solution
Verify that the correct activity is checked under By activities in the program settings and confirm that the event is actually active in the system. If multiple timer, switch channel, or activity programs exist, check their order โ programs higher in the list take priority. For example, if a feed pause program should override a timer program, the feed pause program must be positioned above the timer program in the list.
Cause
The pump channel number selected during assignment does not match the channel configured at the interface level (1-10V, VorTech, or Versia). All available channel numbers are always shown in the list โ the system does not validate whether a number corresponds to a physically connected pump.
Solution
Check the channel number assigned to your pump in its respective interface configuration and make sure the same number is selected in the Pump Groups pump assignment.
