Summary #
Non-dimmable lights โ such as fluorescent tubes, metal halide lamps, or simple LED fixtures without dimming capability โ are controlled via switch channels rather than 1-10V interfaces. A switch channel assigned to an Illumination channel turns the connected outlet on and off according to that channel’s schedule. This article explains how to set up that assignment and configure the Illumination channel for non-dimmable operation.
Applies to #
- ProfiLux 4 Series (incl. Industrial Line / IL)
- ProfiLux 3 Series
- ProfiLux Mini / Light (all versions)
- Software:
- GHL Connect (App, Webinterface, myGHL)
- GHL Control Center
Before you start #
- Outlet connected: The light must be connected to a switchable outlet. See Switch Channels โ Configuration Guide for how outlets connect to the ProfiLux.
- Illumination channel available: Each light needs its own Illumination channel. The ProfiLux supports up to 32 Illumination channels across all connected lighting.
Configuration #
Step 1 โ Assign the switch channel #
Open the switch channel overview (System โ Switch channels and outlets in GHL Control Center, or Switch channels in GHL Connect) and open the channel connected to your light’s outlet for editing.
Set the Function to Illumination and select the Illumination channel index you want to assign to this light. The outlet will then follow that channel’s schedule โ switching on when the channel is active and off when it reaches 0%. If you want to use Variable Illumination (different channels on different weekdays), set the function to Variable illumination and assign a Variable Illumination index instead.
See Switch Channels โ Configuration Guide for details on all available function options and settings.
Step 2 โ Configure the Illumination channel #
Open the assigned Illumination channel (Illumination โ Illumination X in GHL Control Center, or Illumination โ Illumination channels in GHL Connect) and make sure Dimmable is disabled. This switches the channel from brightness-curve mode to on/off mode โ each point in the schedule then defines a Switch on and Switch off time rather than a brightness value.
For full details on building a schedule and other channel settings, see Lighting Schedules โ Configuration Guide.
Notes & Troubleshooting #
- Unlike dimmable lights, non-dimmable channels cannot gradually fade โ they switch instantly. If you need a gradual on/off effect, consider a dimmable fixture controlled via a 1-10V interface instead.
- If the light should also switch off when the tank temperature gets too high, enable Temp.-dep. light reduction on the Illumination channel and configure the shut-off threshold โ see Acclimation & Temperature-Dependent Light Reduction โ Configuration Guide.
- If the light stays off despite the switch channel being assigned, verify that the channel index under the Illumination function matches the Illumination channel where the schedule is defined, and confirm the physical outlet is connected to the correct powerbar socket.
