Summary #
ProfiLux timers control when equipment switches on and off, and act as time-based triggers for other system functions such as dosing, water changes, and logic. Seven switch modes are available, from simple daily windows and timed dosing to randomized cyclic patterns and feeder control.
Applies to #
- ProfiLux 4 Series (incl. Industrial Line / IL)
- ProfiLux 3 Series
- ProfiLux Mini / Light (all versions)
- Software:
- GHL Connect (App, Webinterface, myGHL)
- GHL Control Center
Configuration #
Open a timer via Processes in GHL Connect (then select the timer from the list), or via Processes โ Timer X in the GHL Control Center menu tree. In GHL Connect, settings are split across two tabs: Switch mode and Schedule. In GHL Control Center, all settings appear on a single page.
Switch Modes #
The switch mode defines how the timer behaves and which schedule parameters are available. Select it in the Switch mode tab (GHL Connect) or the Switch mode section (GHL Control Center) before adding schedule entries. Changing the switch mode clears all existing entries, as the parameters between modes are incompatible.
- Normal: On/off at fixed clock times. Each entry defines a Start and End time (hh:mm). Multiple entries can be added to create several windows within the same day.
- Short: Activates for a set number of seconds. Each entry defines a Start time (hh:mm) and a Duration (1โ300 s).
- Cyclic: Alternating on/off pattern with configurable wait times. Each entry defines four parameters: Switch on after โ Min./Max. wait time, and Switch off after โ Min./Max. wait time (all in seconds). When Min. and Max. are equal, the interval is fixed; when they differ, the ProfiLux randomly selects a duration within that range each cycle.
- Event Start: Sends a single timed trigger at a defined time without controlling duration. Each entry defines a Start time (hh:mm) only. Used in other system functions โ such as Level Control โ to define when a process begins, with sensors or other logic taking over from there.
- Feeding: Controls a connected automatic fish feeder. Each entry defines a Start time (hh:mm) and the number of Food portions. See the Automatic Feeder โ Setup & Configuration Guideย for full setup.
- Auto. Dosing and Manu. Dosing: For controlling a dosing pump. Auto. Dosing requires no schedule entries โ configure Dosages per day, Rate per dosage, and Flow rate in the Settings for dosing section; the ProfiLux distributes doses automatically throughout the day. Manu. Dosing uses schedule entries with a Start time and Dosing amount (ml), with flow rate set in Settings for dosing. For most dosing setups, configuring a dedicated dosing pump is recommended instead โ see the GHL Doser โ Setup, Calibration & Schedules article.
Schedule & Day Mode #
The schedule table lists all entries for the active timer. Entries show their parameter values depending on the selected switch mode.
- Adding an entry: Press Add in GHL Connect (a dialog appears with the relevant fields) or the + button in GHL Control Center.
- Editing an entry: Tap the gear icon next to the entry in GHL Connect, or double-click it (or select and press the pencil button) in GHL Control Center.
- Deleting an entry: Open the entry via the gear icon in GHL Connect and press Delete, or select it and press the trash icon in GHL Control Center.
GHL Control Center additionally displays a graphical overview of the configured schedule, available for all switch modes except Cyclic.
The Day mode section controls on which days the schedule is active:
- Specific days of week (Special weekdays in GHL Connect): Select individual weekdays on which the timer shall be active.
- Day intervals: Specify a repetition interval (Repeat every X days) and an optional start delay (Start in X days). For example, a 3-day interval with a 1-day delay starts on day 2 and repeats every 3 days from there.
Examples #
Run a skimmer during daytime hours (Normal) #
Create a Normal timer with a single entry: Start 08:00, End 22:00. Select Specific days of week and check all seven days. Then open Switch Channels, select the skimmer’s outlet, and set the function to the timer number used.
Schedule different flow patterns throughout the day (Cyclic) #
Create a Cyclic timer to define an alternating on/off rhythm โ for example, Switch on after 600โ1800 s and Switch off after 60โ120 s for natural variation. In Pump Groups, assign this timer to a pump program so that the program activates during the timer’s on-phase. This allows different wave modes or intensities to apply at specific times of day.
Start an automatic water change at a set time (Event Start) #
Create an Event Start timer and add entries for each desired start time โ for example, 10:00 daily. In the Level Control settings, select this timer as the trigger for the AWC function. The timer defines when the water change begins; the level sensors then manage when the fill and drain pumps stop. See the Level Control & Leakage Detection โ Setup Guide for the full AWC configuration.
Notes #
- Switch mode change clears schedule: Switching to a different switch mode removes all existing schedule entries, since the parameter sets are incompatible. Set the switch mode first before adding entries.
- Combining timers with other functions: A timer can be combined with Feed Pause, sensor readings, or other functions using Programmable Logic. See the Programmable Logic โ Configuration Guide.
